This indigenous bomber unmanned aircraft represents a major milestone for India. It marks our initial step towards self-reliance in defense technology.
The FWD-200B, built with state-of-the-art technology and manufactured in India, is a cost-effective alternative to the U.S. Predator which costs a staggering ₹250 crores. The price of this indigenous aircraft has been reduced to just ₹25 crores. It demonstrates our commitment to self-reliance. It also positions India as a leader in providing cost-effective defense solutions.
Technical Details of Bomber UAV FWD-200B
This unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), known as the FWD-200B, flies at medium altitudes and has long endurance. The FWD-200B can carry a payload of 100 kg. It is equipped with optical surveillance systems and weapons for accurate air strikes. This drone can reach speeds of up to 200 knots or 370 kmph. It can operate continuously for 12 to 20 hours without needing to refuel. This drone is expected to be significant in the Indian defense sector.
Suhas Tejaskanda, the founder of Flying Wedge Defense & Aerospace, has announced flight tests for the FWD-200B full-scale model later this month. The company will analyze the aircraft’s flight dynamics and behavior in detail. Their goal is to achieve certification from the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) within the next three months.
Once certified, the FWD-200B will be ready to be inducted into the forces. Tejaskanda also mentioned that the company plans to sell this indigenous aircraft to other countries like African and South East Asian countries.
