Short Bio
Prof. Arun K Pati is a quantum computing pioneer, widely recognised as the Father of Indian Quantum Computing. With thirty-five years of research in quantum science, he is the originator of foundational theorems that bear his name, including the No-Deletion, No-Hiding, and No-Masking theorems, as well as Remote State Preparation and Stronger Uncertainty Relations. His research has been featured in Nature, Science, Scientific American, and Nature Asia. An elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, he was awarded the J C Bose National Fellowship in 2019 and consistently ranks in the top two percent of scientists worldwide by Stanford University, where he also holds the number-one position among the world’s most famous quantum information scientists.Extended Bio
Prof. Arun K Pati is a quantum computing pioneer, widely recognised as the Father of Indian Quantum Computing. For thirty-five years, Prof. Pati has worked at the frontiers of quantum science, quantum computing, and quantum information theory. His pioneering contributions have reshaped the field’s understanding of what quantum states can and cannot do. He formulated the No-Deletion theorem — the quantum complement to the no-cloning principle — alongside the No-Hiding theorem, the No-Masking theorem, the protocol for Remote State Preparation, and Stronger Uncertainty Relations. These seminal results are now cited as cornerstones of quantum information science.Prof. Pati’s research has reached beyond the specialist archive. His work has been featured in Nature, Science, Scientific American, and Nature Asia, bringing the implications of quantum theory to global scientific and lay audiences alike. His sustained excellence is reflected in his consistent ranking within the top two percent of scientists worldwide by Stanford University, as well as his standing at the number-one position among the world’s most famous quantum information scientists. For his original and creative contributions, he has received numerous national honours. These include the Indian Physical Society Award for Young Scientists, Kolkata (1996), the Indian Physics Association Award for Young Physicist of the Year, Mumbai (2000), and the Samanta Chandra Sekhar Award (2009) from the Orissa Science Academy. He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from Berhampur University, Odisha. He is an elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, and the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad. In 2019, he was conferred the prestigious J C Bose National Fellowship, among the highest research honours in India. His primary beats include:- Quantum Computation & Quantum Information Theory: Fundamental limits of quantum states, quantum protocols, and the theoretical frameworks that underpin quantum computing.
- Foundational Quantum Theorems: The No-Deletion, No-Hiding, and No-Masking theorems; Remote State Preparation; and Stronger Uncertainty Relations that define the boundaries of quantum information.
- Quantum Science Communication: Translating frontier research in Nature, Science, and Scientific American into accessible narratives about the power and limits of quantum mechanics.
- Research Excellence & Scientific Leadership: Career trajectories in theoretical physics, navigating landmark fellowships and awards, and building globally recognised research programmes in India.
